Later personal

Screen shot of E.'s new place from Google Earth, looking south. There's a fenced-in pool at the right
(where the palm is). E's apartment is in the wing behind the pool, on the second floor, down the catwalk a ways.
[And no, the railing in the middle of the shot (and the floor beneath it) is not jagged.]
Just got back from E.'s new place a few minutes ago. First time there. Power was on and the place was cool. We hauled the tables and chairs (etc.) upstairs and set them up. The stuff I'd bought did add color, since the walls are, as predicted, eggshell or cream. (Hard to tell at night.)

The place was very clean and obviously freshly painted. Decent-sized living/dining area. Nice hardwood floors throughout. Central air. Nice big bathroom. An ample storage closet with shelves. A smallish galley kitchen (I think with a window) with a four-burner gas stove, built-in microwave, dishwasher, and an icemaker in the fridge. Perfect for him.

I think a king-size bed would definitely fit in the bedroom. (That's what he's getting from his boss.) No overhead light, so it was dark in there. Adequate closet. The previous tenant had left behind a large dresser and nightstand that E. can use. (He just needs to get a lamp.)

Miniblinds on all the windows. The front door opens onto a landscaped courtyard, with a big window also looking out onto it (same as in the bedroom). More windows on the opposite (west) wall, where we set up the card tables and pushed them together to put the stuff on. (Actually one table is meant for dining and the other to serve as his computer desk.) (There's one red chair for each.) The kitchen is tucked in to the right of the living/dining area, running along the west wall.

$13 artwork on canvas from Ross. Detail of a vintage car.
(E. also has a red car.)
He really loved the red chairs and the artwork. Mind you, I'm not trying to decorate his place - the fold-up furniture is transitional until he gets what he wants. When he's found replacements for the card tables, I'll take them back. And the casual red chairs - my gift (a bargain at $15 apiece) - can be folded up and stored at the back of his closet for use when he needs some extra seating (unless he wants to keep them out, since they are colorful, and comfortable too).

He also loved the ponytail palm, which should get enough light sitting under the west windows. (E. opened the blinds for it.) At least the place looks a little homier than it did when I first walked in there and saw little but an arrangement of cold (albeit comfortably so, with the A/C running) empty rooms.

The place is very close to his work. One block west of W. Dixie Highway. Convenient to some stores, etc. Four blocks north of 163rd Street, a main drag. Should be pretty quiet there, too, being at a remove from the main traffic arteries.

P.S. If E. wants to return any of the stuff I got him, he has the receipts.
