Called my friend in STL/FTL. He was in FTL. Hadn't talked to him in a month and a half and thought I should call. He has sold his house in FTL (today's his last day there). He was in the process of moving. Tonight he'll be back in STL. Glad I called. I'd tried STL first and his voice mail was full. He didn't want to sell the house in this depressed market but I guess he had to.
He also told me he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He's already been to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (he drove there and back) and somewhere in Texas for tests. He may also go to Sloan-Kettering in NYC. He said he'd been on chemo but they ran out of chemo. (I'd read about that recently.) (See here - "Crucial cancer drugs in critical short supply".) He's had a low-grade cancerous condition for a while, so this wasn't a surprise.
I asked him where he was moving to and he said Lake Placid. It's pretty there, with the lakes and the hilly countryside. He'll be closer to relatives there. When he comes to South Florida, he'll stay at his BF's mother's, where the BF will be staying for now. (She's also had a recent bout with cancer.) Meanwhile his stuff will be in a storage pod.
